The panelists will discuss the launch of the Lawyer for the Day Fair Debt Collection Clinic in Small Claims Court at the Boston Municipal Court Central Division and how attorneys can volunteer at the clinic. The clinic provides pro bono representation to low income defendants in small claims court on credit card collection matters. Substantive training will be provided on the debt collection industry, common defenses to consumer debt collection suits, and litigating Fair Debt Collection Practices Act claims in these cases. Practical training will be provided on how to represent a low-income debtor in negotiations and small claims trials.
