The Consumer Unit is pleased to present this training on the basics of debt collection defense to new volunteers and existing volunteers who want a refresher! Whether you have come to one of our court clinics before or not, we encourage you to attend.

The training will cover the background of consumer debt collection and how the collection industry functions. We will go into detail about how to defend consumers in debt collection cases, with a focus on Small Claims Court (where most debt collection cases are brought), and how to get involved with VLP to represent consumers in these cases.

Finally, we will provide information on state and federal developments to consumer debt collection as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
