ICE Detention Training Session #5: Motions to Reopen, Motions to Remand, and Other Motions Filed Before the Board of Immigration Appeals
The BBA, in partnership with the PAIR Project, is hosting an ICE Detention Training Series for attorneys of all experience levels. After attending the overview session and at least one additional training, attorneys can volunteer for a removal defense case with PAIR. More details on volunteer expectations and the series are available here.
This session will provide an exploration of the procedures for filing motions to reopen in absentia removal orders, with a focus on cases involving changed circumstances or other relevant grounds. Participants will also learn about a range of motions that can be filed with the Board of Immigration Appeals, including motions to remand, motions for late appeal filings, and motions to certify. These procedural strategies are crucial for assisting clients in vacating prior removal orders and securing lasting immigration relief.
