Immigration Defense Training Series: The Current Immigration Landscape (Part 1)
PAIR Project is hosting a 4-part Immigration Training Series. Click here to see all parts of the series and for more details.
Since the beginning of 2025, we have seen a seismic shift in immigration law and policy in the U.S, one that targets and punishes immigrants, including asylum seekers and those with pending application and status. Immigrant communities across the country are experiencing an assault on their legal rights and security, such as the attempt to ban refugees at U.S. borders, termination of humanitarian parole, stripping of asylum protections and due process, and increased physically brutal arrest and detention by ICE. These changes have left immigrants in the U.S. in shock and despair. PAIR/BBA is presenting a 4-part series to empower advocates to meet this moment and to protect immigrant rights.
This opening session will give a broad overview of all the extreme challenges immigrant communities are facing: shifts in immigrant law and policy, extreme ICE enforcement, gutting of the immigration court, growing backlogs, surge in federal court battles, and uncertainty in the future of the immigration system. Speakers will outline the extreme challenges immigrant communities are facing and provide an overview of the immigration landscape at large.
