Legal Services Lunch: Protecting the Legal and Civil Rights of Immigrant Students and Students with Disabilities

As we continue grappling with the results of the national election, we are bracing for the incoming administration’s plans regarding civil rights matters that will impact immigrant students and students with disabilities and their families. While we do not have a complete picture of the proposed changes or how they will impact students, we do know of some of the plans that were discussed publicly, for example:

• Closing the United States Department of Education
• Curbing enforcement of civil rights laws at the administrative level
• Enacting “Universal School Choice:” in every state
• Rescinding the “sensitive locations” policy – that has largely prevented immigration enforcement activities in schools, and other “sensitive locations”.
