Special Education Law Basics: An Entry Point for Pro Bono Volunteers
October 13 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Join BBF Grantee, Massachusetts Advocates for Children (MAC) for a concise introduction to special education law. The training is designed as an entry point for new advocates and pro bono volunteers. You’ll leave the program with an understanding of:
- Students’ rights under special education law
- The IEP process, including the nuts and bolts of IEP meetings
- Common challenges families face and how to help address them
No prior experience in education law required. Families across Massachusetts are navigating IEP meetings without an advocate in the room. More attorneys are needed to step into this work, and this training is where that starts. Nervous about getting started? MAC provides pro bono volunteers with technical assistance, mentoring, advanced training in specific areas of the law and regulations, and additional resources to support you along the way. Register now and take the first step!
