Special Education Law Basics: An Entry Point for Pro Bono Volunteers
October is Pro Bono Month! We encourage all of you to get involved with legal services organizations and support their communities.
This training, led by BBF Grantee Massachusetts Advocates for Children, offers a concise introduction to special education law. It will cove students’ rights, the Individualized Education Process (IEP), and common challenges families face. Designed as an entry point for new advocates and pro bono volunteers, it provides the foundational knowledge needed to begin supporting students with disabilities and their families.
Training/Mentoring: MAC supports its pro bono volunteers by providing technical assistance, mentoring, and advanced training in specific areas of the law and regulations. MAC also shares resource materials and opportunities for legal skills building for pro bono collaborators to increase their knowledge about education law through trainings, conferences, and networking.
