Housing Court Lawyer for the Day, Western Division (In-Person)

Organization: Community Legal Aid (CLA)

Volunteer lawyers and law students provide free legal help to tenants facing eviction in the Western Massachusetts Housing Court in Springfield. This Lawyer for the Day project is a collaboration between Community Legal Aid (CLA), the Hampden County Bar Association Legal Clinic, and Western New England University School of Law.

Shifts: Thursday mornings from 8:00-1:00pm in Western Massachusetts Housing Court in Springfield

How it works: Volunteers may be called upon to file a court appearance, on the day they volunteer only, in order to represent the client in their eviction case.  The volunteers may also advocate for the clients through mediation with a court specialist. Onsite mentorship is provided by experienced CLA staff.
