Remote Unemployment Insurance Benefits Project

Organization: Community Legal Aid (CLA)

Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits are the best source of support for workers who have recently lost their jobs, had hours reduced, or been temporarily laid off because of Coronavirus/COVID-19. Because the application process is very challenging, particularly for those with limited English proficiency or limited access to or ability to use the technology, CLA has developed a remote project to file UI claims for people not able to manage the process on their own.

CLA seeks volunteers, including lawyers, law students, and non-lawyers, to be volunteer "helpers" to assist people in accessing this critical benefit. CLA can offer training to volunteers and ongoing mentoring to all volunteers.
