The American Bar Association is hosting a vritual event entitled Launching Court-Based Pro Bono Clinics, Including Ethics Tips on September 2, 2021 at 1:00 PM Eastern.
Want to launch a court-based pro bono clinic? This webinar will provide advice and resources for Judges and attorneys who would like to develop a court-affiliated pro bono clinic, focusing on compliance with ethics requirements, including judicial codes and Model Rules of Professional Conduct 6.1, 1.2(c), and 6.5; ensuring sustainable and manageable clinic operations, and improving access to justice in state and federal jurisdictions.
Judges and lawyers who want to create a court affiliated pro bono clinic will need to know how to ensure the clinic meets all the legal and ethical requirements. At the end of this program, attendees will:
- Understand how to launch an effective and sustainable court affiliated pro-bono clinic in a state or federal jurisdiction,
- Recognize ethics requirements for both the court and volunteer attorneys, and ensure the clinic complies with the requirements, particularly the judicial codes and Model Rules of Professional Conduct 6.1, 1.2(c), and 6.5 and
- Promote the clinic as a means to improve access to justice.

The ABA will seek 1.00 Ethics and Professional Responsibility CLE credit hours in 60-minute states, and 1.20 Ethics and Professional Responsibility CLE credit hours in 50-minute states. Credit hours are estimated and are subject to each state’s approval and credit rounding rules.
Florida Bar regulators have stated that attorneys will not receive Florida credit for this ABA program, even if they self-apply.
