Medical parole, or compassionate release, is a relatively new legal mechanism in Massachusetts through which terminally ill and permanently incapacitated prisoners can petition for release from prison, and pro bono attorneys can help! During the March 20 training, Prisoners’ Legal Services staff attorneys Becky Schapiro and Ada Lin will provide background about the indignities of aging and dying in prison, and provide an overview of the medical parole petition process in Massachusetts. Representing incarcerated clients in their medical parole petitions is a meaningful way to help some of the most vulnerable and often forgotten members of our community. These petitions are time-sensitive but time-limited, and appropriate for attorneys at any experience level. PLS staff attorneys will provide ongoing mentoring support on all matters handled by pro bono attorneys.

This event will be in person. Lunch will be provided and registration is required.
