Settlement and Early Resolution Volunteers (SERV) in Suffolk Probate and Family Court

Organization: Volunteer Lawyers Project of the Boston Bar Association (VLP)

SERV (Settlement and Early Resolution Volunteers) is a court-certified pro bono program that provides conciliation to low-income unrepresented parties in family law cases. It began as a collaboration between the firm Verrill Dana and Senior Partners for Justice at the Volunteer Lawyers Project. SERV has successfully resolved 95% of the cases conciliated. In 2013, the program was honored with a John Adams Pro Bono Publico Award from the Supreme Judicial Court Standing Committee on Pro Bono.

SERV is held twice per week in the Suffolk Family Law Court on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9am-1pm.

To volunteer for the program you need to have completed an 8-hour conciliation training or a certified mediation training and have at least 3 years of family law practice experience. You can click here to sign up.
